Ordering Your Custom Gobo
Stage Lighting Services makes it simple to turn your designs into high-quality metal gobos. Follow our straightforward process to ensure your project is processed without delay.
Design Your Gobo Artwork:
Step 1.
Create your custom design using your preferred graphic design software. For steel gobos, designs must be black and white (no greyscale or gradients). Ensure your file is saved in a high-resolution format such as vector AI, EPS, PDF, or a high-res JPEG/TIFF.
Contact Stage Lighting Services:
Step 2.
Get in touch with our team of technical specialists. Send over your artwork, specify your required size (A, B, E, M, or a specific fixture model), and let us know your required quantity. We will provide a formal quote and check your artwork against Rosco’s strict manufacturing specifications.
Approval & Production:
Step 3.
Once your artwork is verified and approved, it is sent to Rosco for precision chemical etching. Rosco manufactures your custom metal gobos to their exact engineering standards to guarantee high-temperature stability on stage.
Delivery:
Step 4.
Following production, Stage Lighting Services will manage the logistics and deliver your custom-made gobos directly to you. Our standard delivery turnaround is typically 3 to 5 working days from artwork sign-off.
Artwork Guidelines for Metal Gobos
Unlike glass options, custom-made steel gobos function like a stencil. To ensure your custom gobo can be successfully etched:
-
Bridging: Very intricate designs or “floating” elements (like the centre of an ‘O’ or ‘D’) require small tabs of metal called “bridges” to hold them in place. Our team will review your file and advise if any minor bridging adjustments are needed.
-
Line Weight: Maintain distinct lines with sufficient thickness to survive the chemical etching process and project clearly through the fixture lens.
-
Colour: Artwork must be purely black and white. Black represents the steel that remains (blocking the light), and white represents the areas to be cut out (allowing light to pass through).
